Financial Controller

At Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions, we are looking for a Financial Controller who takes responsibility and maintains an overview amidst complexity.

Location: Appingedam, NL

What will you be doing?

As a Financial Controller, you work at the heart of the organization. The focus is clearly on finance & accounting. You ensure reliable figures, smooth-running processes, and analyses that management can rely on.

At the same time, you operate in an environment where systems and processes are constantly evolving, priorities can shift, and you need to switch gears regularly.

You will be involved in, among other things:

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
• Preparation of financial reports and analyses.
• Coordinating monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, including balance sheet specifications, journal entries, and financial analyses.
• Correct processing of general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, fixed assets, and interim accounts.
• Processing and verifying intercompany transactions and reconciliation between entities.
• Assisting with cost calculations, project administration, and progress reporting.
• Preparing VAT returns and contributing to other tax reports.
• Monitoring internal control measures, compliance, and risk management.
• First point of contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
• Identifying deviations, risks, and areas for improvement within financial processes.
• Actively contribute to process improvements, standardization, and further professionalization of the financial organization.

Additionally, there is the sustainability/ESG reporting component. Experience in this area is a plus, but certainly not a requirement. More importantly, you find it interesting to delve into this. The emphasis is on finance.

You will work closely with the Manager Finance & ICT, act as a sparring partner, and provide functional guidance to the accounting team. You do not need to know everything from day one; there is room to grow in the role.

You will be working within the Finance & ICT department, a compact and committed team responsible for the financial foundation of the organization. The department is led by the Manager Finance & ICT, to whom you also report directly. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues within the financial administration (including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll) and act as a connecting link between the team, management, and external parties such as the auditor.

As a Financial Controller, you have an independent role with significant responsibility, maintaining an overview of the financial processes. Communication lines are short, collaboration is practical, and there is room to continue building the financial organization together.

What kind of environment will you end up in?

Bollegraaf is an internationally operating organization within a dynamic project environment. The financial organization supports diverse projects and stakeholders, both internal and external. This requires an overview, the ability to prioritize, and the capacity to switch between different issues.

Currently, work is being done using existing systems (including Dynamics AX, Lucanet, and Excel). At the same time, there is a clear ambition and plan to further modernize the financial systems and processes in the coming years. Until then, the focus is on careful configuration, smart solutions within the current landscape, and the step-by-step further professionalization of the financial organization.

This role is a good fit for a finance professional who finds it interesting to maintain control and structure using existing resources now, and to contribute to further system and process development in the long term.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a financial professional who is grounded, enjoys taking ownership, and thrives on a broad role.

You recognize yourself in the following:

• Completed higher professional or university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, or similar
• Approximately 5 years of relevant experience (for example as a financial controller or in accountancy or audit practice)
• Good oral and written command of Dutch and English
• Good Excel skills
• Analytical, critical, and strong communication skills
• Experience with ERP systems (Power BI is a plus)

This role is a good fit for someone who wants to develop further, enjoys being at the heart of operations, and is not looking for a fully mapped-out, predictable environment.

What does Bollegraaf offer?

• A salary between €4,800 and €5,800 per month, depending on education and experience. Home office allowance, travel allowance and annual profit-sharing scheme.
• 27 annual vacation days + 13 ADV days. Plus the option to exchange 3, 6, or 9 ADV days for extra salary.
