Glass Handling

Glass handling consists of three aspects, namely, size reduction, separation by size and removal of contaminants.

With over 40 years of experience with screens, Lubo Recycling Solutions has the knowledge and tools to maximize the purity of your waste stream. To sort out the glass from your waste stream, Lubo has developed two specialized screens. one to break and sort the incoming glass called the Lubo Glass Breaker Screen and one to separate contaminated glass called the Lubo Glass Cleaning System.

Lubo Glass Breaker Screen

The Lubo Glass Breaker Screen consists of a two deck star screen which is designed to break and screen the glass fraction in a waste stream. Firstly, the glass is broken by the first deck consisting of shafts with wear-resistant Hardox steel stars. After the glass is broken, the glass falls onto a second screen with conventional rubber stars. The diameter of these stars can range from 235mm or 330mm and can be made from rubber or Hardox steel depending on the wishes and needs of the customer.

The Glass Breaker Screen screens the glass into four fractions:

• Oversized, larger than 2 inches or 5,08cm, consisting of food waste, silverware, flattened aluminium and plastics;
• Fines, smaller than 3/8 inches or 9,525mm, usually used as a component of road base;
• Heavies, clean, sellable glass that meets industry standards;
• Lights, sellable shredded paper.

Lubo Glass Breaker Screen

To enable easy and quick maintenance, the Glass Breaker Screen has been fitted with a crane gantry with a travelling crab. Each of the shafts of screen are fitted with the patented Lubo Quick Disconnect. This greatly reduces the downtime for maintenance and maximises the up-time of the machines.

Lubo Glass Cleaning System

The Lubo Glass Cleaning System is a system that consists of a vibrating screen with a flexible screening deck.

At the first step, the flexible vibrating screening deck removes the 0-10 mm fraction from a dirty material stream. The 0-10 fraction contains a large amount of fine glass, which causes enormous wear-and-tear to the air system. This fraction should be removed from the material stream before it reaches the wind shifter.

Due to the fact that the wind shifter does not clean the fraction 0-10 mm, there will be small pieces of glass in the material stream.

After the material passes the vibrating screen, there will be a covered conveyor with a wind shifter positioned at the end with an integrated reception chute.

Lubo Glass Cleaning System

The next step in the cleaning process is a second vibrating screen with a flexible screening deck. This deck removes the 10-25 mm fraction out of the material stream. After taking out this fraction, the remaining material is considerably heavier than the contaminates that still remain in the material stream.

At the end of this screen, there is a second wind shifter with integrated reception chute. This wind shifter will remove the majority of the contaminations of 25-50 kg/m3.
